Michele Bachmann's Racist "Tar Baby" Remark

Another Republican denigrates our President and pleads innocence.  That the formula they're using consistently.  What they don't know is that no one believes them to be stupid or unaware of the racist terms they choose to use as red meat for the Republican base. Obviously Republicans don't care what people think and those that are offended by their racist words...I guess they just say "go to hell".

The Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann told a conservative blog Wednesday that Obama's calls for more regulation of oil speculators "is just about waving a tar baby in the air and saying that something else is a problem." In the Uncle Remus story, "tar baby" describes a tar lump dressed as a person to catch Brer Rabbit. But "tar baby" also has been considered a derogatory term for black people.

Montana Governor Hits Romney's Family Past

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) stepped into a touchy subject with his comment that Mitt Romney’s family came from a “polygamy commune.”

On Thursday in a interview with the Daily Beast, the outspoken governor suggested Romney could identify with Latinos better if he talked about his family’s roots in Mexico.

It’s “kinda ironic, given that his family came from a polygamy commune in Mexico, but then he’d have to talk about his family coming from a polygamy commune in Mexico, given the gender discrepancy,” Schweitzer said.

The Emerging Urban World-2025

World gross economic productWorld gross economic product (Photo credit: Arenamontanus)

We'd better get ready...the urban world is shifting. Today only 600 cities generate over 60 per cent of global growth, but by 2025 the membership of this group, the City 600, will change. Companies will need to adjust their strategy to include the 577 fast-growing "middleweight cities" and that will affect us all.  Over the next 15 years, the center of gravity of the urban world will move south and, even more decisively, east. Cities in China and India will have an outsized role in the global economy.

ALEC Tucks Tail and Runs-Lives to Fight Another Day

Most folks in the neighborhood know what it means to "tuck tail and run" so that you can "live to fight another day. Well, today ALEC, a powerful, controversial corporate-sponsored lobbying group did just that. Do you know about ALEC? I hope so, because this is something you need to know.

ALEC is the American Legislative Exchange Council, the organization who "sold" Florida's Stand Your Ground law to a group of other states for adoption. ALEC also packaged and sold legislators across the country on a variety of Voter ID laws  which disenfranchise millions of likely voters. ALEC is that meeting in a quiet room that Mitt Romney was talking about, legislators and big-money sponsors.

Women: Don't Let Romney's Lies Fool You

With Romney under attack from the Obama campaign for policies it says are anti-woman (such as Romney’s opposition to abortion rights and support for federal de-funding of Planned Parenthood), Romney has tried to turn the tables, pointing to a statistic that shows the unemployment rate for women is recovering more slowly from the recession.

Here’s what Romney said in a Fox News interview on April 11:
Romney, April 11: He [Obama] has lost 800,000 jobs during his presidency. And by the way, do you know what percentage of those jobs lost were lost by women? Over 92 percent of the jobs lost under this president were lost by women. His policies have been, really, a war on women.

A Power Behind the Throne: Grover Norquist

at CPAC in .
Who is Grover Norquist? Why should you care? Simple answer-Grover is a power broker in the Republican Party and he will influence the tax policies of the presumptive Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney.

Meet Grover Norquist:
He's a Washington legend who single-handedly defined the GOP's brand as the "No Tax Party".  His idea for the "No Tax Pledge" began when he was in high school. He successfully garnered signatures for this pledge from Republicans in the House of Representatives and in the U. S. Senate. At the present time 336 members of the House of Representatives, 41 Senators, 13 Governors and 1,247 State Legislatures have signed the Taxpayer Protection Plan. Thanks to his far reaching influence, no congressional Republican has voted for a major tax increase since 1991. He represents the oligarchy of the super rich. Accordingly, economic conservative Grover Norquist is one of the most powerful non-elected leaders in American political history.

AZ New Anti-Abortion Law Attacks Women's Health and Safety

Republicans continue their war on women while they steadfastly  deny it. Here's another example on the GOP abusing women.

Despite its name, critics derided the Women’s Health and Safety Act that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law today as cruel, dangerous, and hostile to women—likely to deter many Arizona women from seeking an abortion, and to distress those who nonetheless go through with one.

Judge Gives the Justice Dept. A Class Assignment

Atty. Gen. Eric Holder

Judge Jerry Smith, a member of the 5th Circuit since President Reagan appointed him in 1988, is no shrinking violet. But his bold move this week was to spar with President Barack Obama over his remarks at a news conference.

Can you believe a federal appellate judge gave the U. S. Justice Dept. the task of producing a three page single spaced report to reassure the court that the Obama Administration respects the decisions the courts make. Judge Jerry Smith made the request after President Barack Obama said this week that it would be "unprecedented" for the Supreme Court to overturn a major law passed by Congress like the health care overhaul whose constitutionality it is now considering. Smith directed the Justice Dept. to specifically address the President's remarks.
