Ever wonder what happened to Desirée Rogers after she left her job as White House social secretary last winter? During her 15-month stay in Washington, Ms. Rogers broke molds. She was the first black person to occupy the position of social secretary.

Since August, Rogers has been chief executive of the Johnson Publishing Company, owner of Ebony and Jet magazines and Fashion Fair Cosmetics. At Johnson Publishing, a company run by her close friend Linda Johnson Rice and founded by Ms. Rice’s father, no one is telling Ms. Rogers to hang up the couture, stay out of the press and ease up on the branding talk.
