I saddens me to know that our country was responsible for a 1940s Syphillis Experiment in Guatemala. The related articles give all the details, but what we need to understand is the racism behind these studies that once again used people of color as human guinea pigs. What frightens me about the climate today is that I feel strongly that prevailing racial attitudes could well manifest itself in similiar outrages against non-white citizens.
