Murkowski's Opponent Gets Palin Support

Senator Lisa Murkowski of AlaskaImage via Wikipedia
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s political action committee raised $865,815 in the year’s second quarter and she used some of that money to help a primary challenger to incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski, a fellow Republican, in her home state.

Maybe it's no surprise to Lisa Murkowski that Sarah Palin has thrown her support to her opponent attorney Joe Miller.

Voters were more than happy to toss Murkowski's father, former Gov. Frank Murkowski (R), out of office in a 2006 primary. (He won just 19 percent in the 2006 GOP primary, a race won by a little known, small town mayor named Sarah Palin.)

Murkowski's father was her predecessor in the Senate. Pa Murkowski was elected Governor of Alaska, resigned his senate seat, and then appointed his daughter, little Lisa, to be his successor! Well you can imagine the shit storm of criticism that caused. The voters of Alaska even stripped the governor of the power to appoint an interim senator in case of a vacancy.

To make a long story short, Lisa survived it all winning a competitive primary and whipping a popular former Democratic Alaska governor. Six years later she is in excellent shape and about the only opposition she has on the horizon has the same weight as the numerous flies in the short Alaska summer.

It'll be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
