Tea Party Federation Expels Group

The National Tea Party Federation expelled a member group resulting in a major split in the political movement.

The federation gave the Tea Party Express a deadline to rebuke and remove spokesman Mark Williams.  The move was in response to Williams' online post which he called " Colored People" to President Abraham Lincoln. The leader's response clearly stated that there was no intention of taking the action required by the federation to continue as a member of the National Tea Party Federation. The National Tea Party Federation expelled Tea Party Express from its ranks of membership, effective immediately.

During an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation", federation spokesman David Webb called the blog post "clearly offensive".

While it is not clear how many supporters the Tea Party Express has, it boasts 600 Facebook followers.

The National Tea Party Federation claims 61 groups as members, and says it has "affiliate relationships" with 21 other groups.
